Dr. McAllister, Jeff Stepanian, and Greg Norling will be leading the opening session of the International Congress of Joint Replacement’s 6th Annual Winter Hip & Knee Course.  The ProOrtho team was invited to join an internationally renowned faculty to create a session on outpatient joint replacement surgery.

In addition to presentations on minimally invasive surgical techniques, Dr. McAllister will review the preliminary results from the ProOrtho Study being conducted with his partners, Drs. Fuchs and Stickney, on rapid rehabilitation after outpatient joint replacement.  This study formally follows the outcomes following total knee arthroplasty (TKA), utilizing MIS (minimally invasive surgery) computer-assisted techniques in normal risk and high-risk patients. Patients undergo a thorough preoperative teaching program and have knee replacement surgery performed with state-of-the-art knee replacement implants and postoperative pain management methods. They learn and follow a rapid rehabilitation program and their reported outcomes detail pain control, range of motion, functional outcomes, return to activities, and overall satisfaction.

This study will help set the stage for safe improvements in knee replacement surgery, discharge practices, cost of care, and improvements in patient care and is a major focus for the 6th Annual Meeting.  This four day meeting provides an interactive medical education and communication platform where hundreds of joint replacement surgeons will focus on primary replacement, minimally invasive surgical techniques, computer navigation, multimodal pain management, patient reported outcomes, and rapid rehabilitation.

Virtually every aspect of joint replacement will be examined through case-based learning, video vignettes, and audience interaction. In addition, ProOrtho will be proctoring cadaver labs to provide attendees with the opportunity for hands-on training on the latest, cutting-edge procedures and technology for hip & knee arthroplasty.
